FAQ

  • What is the Myco Lid Pro™ made of?

The Myco Lid Pro™ in made with Delrin® Acetal Resin. This material is also referred to as POM or polyoxymethylene. It has a wide range of uses and is also known for its application in the Tattler Reusable Canning Lid, a patented plastic lid that lasts indefinitely when used for canning purposes.

The main differences between the Myco Lid Pro™ and the Tattler Reusable Canning Lid is the type of polymer used to manufacture them.

The Tattler reusable Canning Lid is made with a POM Copolymer whereas the Myco Lid Pro™ is made with a POM Homopolymer.

  • How long will the Myco Lid Pro™ Last?

Delrin® Acetal Resin has been shown to last up to 1500 minutes of accumulative steam autoclaving.

Further exposure to steam may result is surface chalking and hydrolysis.

    1500 Minutes ÷

    15 min cycles = 100 Autoclave Runs

    20 min cycles = 75 Autoclave Runs

    60 min cycles = 25 Autoclave Runs

    90 min cycles = 17 Autoclave Runs

  • Is the Myco Lid Pro™ Food Safe?

    Yes.

The Myco Lid Pro™ is made with Delrin® FG500P NC010 and was developed for Food Contact Appliations

  • What sizes are available?

Currently the only size available is the Wide Mouth size for Mason Jars.

Remaining versions will be manufactured in the near future.

  • The Myco Lid Pro™ is Patent (Pending). Does this mean I can't make/sell my own homemade lids?

No. The Myco Lid Pro™ is a professionally made product that is protected with IP rights.

Only professional manufacturing is allowed by Dark Room Grow Labs LLC. (For Example: Injection Molding, 3D Printing, CNC Machining)

You can still make your own homemade lids and sell them without risking infringement on the Myco Lid Pro™ IP rights.

  • Does the Myco Lid Pro™ need a Gasket?

Yes. The Myco Lid Pro™ requires a gasket for best results and the highest possibility of a sterile seal.

A Gasket is included with each Myco Lid Pro™

Any gasket intended for Mason Jars can be used with the Myco Lid Pro™

  • What is the Needle/Tube under the lid for?

Integrated into each Myco Lid Pro™ is an integral luer lock.

This luerlock is intended for use with a needle/tube.

This needle stays within the sterile environment of the jar and is utilized in sampling procedures.

This allows for a liquid culture to be sampled more effectively. No more tipping the jar. No more wearing out the injection port.

  • Should the Syringe Filter be Sterilized in the Autoclave?

it is NOT recommended that the Syringe Filter be autoclaved by steam They are OK to Autoclave with dry heat.

Although the filter material is considered to be “Hydrophobic” (repel moisture). Steam still moves through the membrane leaving the filter moist which can lead to decreases porosity of the filter and a reduction in diffusion of gases.

  • What are the black things floating in the liquid culture videos?

This is the “Syringe Tip Tek”

This is a method that improves the cutting ability of a stir bar in a liquid culture. As the stir bar spins at high speeds, the syringe tips collide with the bar and assist in shredding up the delicate hyphae. This tek is especially useful as the syringe tips are easily strewn about the liquid culture without risk of breaking the jar.
